THE HIVE, accra GH

As lead designers for a new mixed-use building, we were challenged to produce a scheme which is functional with elements/materials sustainable in nature but is also vibrant. The end result is a scheme centered around a communal courtyard for private residents on the 1st floor and multiple terraces above integrated into the facades. These are complemented by strategically placed planters and timber screens for a warm, welcoming aesthetic but also to reduce heat gain aiding in cooling of the apartment spaces. At ground level, visitors encounter an inviting public space partly identified by a cascading water feature at the entrance steps and a locally produced pigmented earth render.
